Introduction Jonesboro a city in Craighead County, was named after state Sen. William Jones. The community is in the Central Standard time zone. One of the most progressive cities of Arkansas, it was established in 1859 among the rolling hills of Crowley's Ridge in northeast Arkansas. It is the largest city in northeast Arkansas, and the fifth most populous city in the state. It is also an important seat of education and it houses Arkansas State University. It is a regional center for manufacturing, agriculture, medicine, and trade. Jonesboro enjoys a temperate climate with temperatures generally ranging from 41 degrees to 80 degrees F. It receives an average annual rainfall of approximately 50 inches and about six inches of snowfall.Jonesboro is nicknamed "The City of Churches" as it has over seventy-five churches.
